Which Posts Are Included in India Post GDS Recruitment 2026?
1. Branch Postmaster – BPM
The Branch Postmaster is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office and related India Post Payments Bank operations. BPM duties include postal operations, customer services, marketing and promotion of postal products and services.
In a single-handed Branch Post Office, the BPM has overall responsibility for smooth and timely functioning, including mail conveyance and delivery. BPM may also have to perform combined ABPM duties when required.
A selected BPM is required to arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and is required to reside in the post village.
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster – ABPM
ABPM duties include sale of stamps and stationery, mail conveyance and doorstep delivery, IPPB transactions, assisting the BPM and promoting Department of Posts products and services.
ABPM may also be required to perform BPM duties when ordered or when a BPM is unavailable. ABPMs are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Branch Post Office.
3. Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks may work in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, Delivery Centres and other offices of the Department.
Depending on the place of posting, duties can include sale of stamps and stationery, mail and parcel handling, doorstep delivery, IPPB transactions, sorting and movement of mail bags and assisting Post Office staff.

GDS employees are paid through the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) structure. The notification provides the following initial TRCA slabs:

How Is the India Post GDS Merit List Prepared?
The merit list is prepared from the marks obtained in the Class 10 Secondary School Examination and is aggregated to a percentage with accuracy up to four decimal places.

What Happens If Two Candidates Have the Same Merit Marks?
In the event of a tie, the Department has prescribed a priority order beginning with date of birth, with the older candidate receiving priority, followed by specified category and gender/transgender priorities.

How to Apply Online for India Post GDS Vacancy 2026?
The application process is completely online. It is divided into two principal parts: One-Time Registration (OTR) and Online Application.
Step 1 – Visit the Official GDS Portal
Open the official India Post GDS Online Engagement portal.
Step 2 – Complete One-Time Registration
During OTR, candidates need an active mobile number and email ID. Both are verified through OTP. The same mobile number and email ID cannot be used for another applicant’s registration.
Step 3 – Enter Personal Details Carefully
Enter your name, date of birth, father’s/guardian’s name, mother’s name, gender, community and other details exactly as they appear in your Class 10 certificate.
Step 4 – Fill the Online Application
After registration, log in and complete the online application by entering address details, Class 10 information, eligible preferences and other required information.
Step 5 – Select Your Division
The notification specifies that an applicant can apply for one or more eligible GDS posts within only one selected Division. After selecting the Division, the portal displays eligible posts based on applicable conditions such as community, age, PwD status and local language.
