
West Bengal Primary Teacher Recruitment for 13421 Assistant Teachers
The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has issued a recruitment notification for eligible candidates for the post of Assistant Teacher in government-aided and government-sponsored primary schools across the state. The recruitment aims to fill 13,421 vacant positions.

Eligibility and Qualifications
To be eligible, candidates must be a citizen of India and have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the WBBPE. In addition to the TET, candidates must meet one of the following academic qualifications:
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, EC, Ex-Servicemen, and PwD) are eligible for a 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks.
Age Requirement
Candidates must be between 18 and 40 years old as of January 1, 2025. The upper age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (A & B), PwD, Exempted Category (EC), Ex-Servicemen (ExS), and Para Teacher (PT) categories.
Application Fees
The application fee is non-refundable and varies by category:
- General Category: INR 600
- OBC (A and B): INR 500
- SC/ST/EWS/PwD: INR 300
Selection Process
The selection will be based on a total of 50 marks, evaluated across several parameters:
- Madhyamik/equivalent examination: 5 marks
- Higher Secondary/equivalent examination: 10 marks
- Training (as specified by NCTE): 15 marks
- Teacher Eligibility Test (TET): 5 marks
- Extra-Curricular Activities: 5 marks
- Viva-Voce/Interview: 5 marks
- Aptitude Test/Teaching experience: 5 marks
Candidates are also required to provide their preference for a District Primary School Council (DPSC) or Primary School Council (PSC) where they wish to be posted if selected. The schedule for the application portal will be announced at a later date.
